On September 4th, athletes and fun-runners from across the county came together to take part in the inaugural Saxilby 5k road race. Sponsored by OrderWise, the event was organised by Saxilby with Ingleby Parish Council as an initiative for the local community to take part in and have some fun. Many of the runners were also raising money for charities of their choice and luckily the rain held off for a great morning of post-Olympics athletics action!
The event started and finished at St. Andrews Community Centre in Saxilby, with a great turnout of 140 runners in total taking part in the race. The course was then marshalled by qualified staff, OrderWise employees and a number of local volunteers.
OrderWise was pleased to be the lead sponsor for the event, which included donating funds for the provision of t-shirts and medals for all participants, as well as a selection of trophies for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place runners in a variety of categories. Several members of OrderWise staff also participated, including keen-runner and Managing Director of OrderWise David Hallam, who also presented the trophies and medals to all the runners.
On the day, the winners were:
Tom Straw – Male Winner
Laura Wilkinson – Female Winner
Samuel Roberts – 11-15 Boys Winner
India Barnwell – 11-15 Girls Winner
So a big congratulations to all the winners and thanks to everyone who took part, whether as runners, walkers, marshals, volunteers or supporters. You all contributed to making the event such a great success. Here’s hoping we can do it all again next year!
OrderWise Employees Begin Marathon Fundraising Efforts!
Following their participation in the Saxilby 5k, OrderWise staff members Laura and Jay Lee (pictured right with their son Shane) now have their sights set on a much bigger challenge. They’ll be running a mammoth 888k (that’s 552 miles!) in 11 weeks to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Their exertions will include the Lincoln Half Marathon and the Steeples & Spires Challenge which is a brutal 26 mile cross country run. In addition to all this, IT Technician Jay is also running around 30k from Newark to Lincoln to support a friend who is raising money for CCAA Kids with Arthritis.
Laura and Jay are certainly doing their bit for charity and we hope they’re successful in reaching their fundraising targets for two very worthy causes.
