Rising parcel volumes require integrated Courier control

For many companies the coming weeks will be the busiest trading period of the year.  While over recent festive periods the overall sales performance has been relatively static there is one area that has seen significant and consistent increase, parcel deliveries.  A recent report published by Price Waterhouse Cooper that was commissioned by the Royal Mail looks at the outlook for mail volumes to 2023.  This highlights the rise of the UK parcels market showing an increase from 1.3bn in 2005 to 1.7bn in 2012 with volumes expected to reach 2.3bn items by 2023.

An upwards trend hitting an all time seasonal peak

This report will come as no surprise to many as the trend for shopping online continues, IMRG report online retail sales up 15% so far in 2013 and expect spend to top £87bn with the majority of these purchases being delivered by couriers.  On top of the overall trend for increased parcel volumes, last year saw courier companies report a surge in parcel volumes over the pre and post Christmas period of up to 50% with a marked increase on overall year on year demand.

A key part of the order fulfilment chain

These figures highlight how important courier services are for UK businesses and why handling this crucial part of the supply chain effectively is key to efficient and accurate order fulfilment, particularly during peak trading periods.  Many businesses will have already made the first step in streamlining this process and will use software provided by their couriers to create labels and organise delivery details.  While this is an improvement on manual management it still remains a process unconnected with the rest of the despatch operation.  This separation means details have to be rekeyed, wasting time and increasing the opportunity for error and results in additional work reconciling consignment details between courier software and internal systems.

Efficient, accurate and visible despatch management through courier integration

OrderWise Courier IntegrationThe OrderWise Courier Integration module enables this key process to be performed seamlessly as part of despatch operations, with existing links to 35 courier and courier consolidation software systems.  Depending on the courier or couriers a company links with, OrderWise can generate consignment numbers, pass delivery address details, retrieve consignment numbers and record these details against the relevant order in the click of a button with required labels printed.  This is all performed as part of the standard shipping process within OrderWise, requiring no additional work resulting in improved despatch efficiency and accuracy, elimination of rekeying and increased volume handling capability.  The automatic recording of relevant consignment and shipping details in OrderWise provides staff with the key information needed to handle customer queries on delivery.  This information can also be sent back to websites, ebay and Amazon via the eCommerce module as part of despatch notification to provide consignment details for tracking, further reducing inbound queries and providing an exceptional buying experience for the customer and one they have grown to expect.

Below is a list of the couriers and courier consolidation services we currently link with, in many cases we have multiple links available for a courier company to integrate with the different services they provide.
